CM Homeschoolers OC – A Christmas Commonplacing Night
December 17, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm
At the recent SoCalCM Conference, there was a brief time of Commonplace sharing from members of the audience – we were blown away! There were so many thoughtful quotes and responses, we decided to do it again! This time as our Christmas gathering.
What is a Commonplace Book/Commonplacing? A Commonplace Book is a notebook Charlotte Mason’s students used to keep the great and noble thoughts of others through their readings. It was a sort of reading journal. Wikipedia describes the Commonplace Book as something that was “kept from antiquity, and were kept particularly during the Renaissance and in the nineteenth century… essentially scrapbooks filled with items of every kind: recipes, quotes, letters, poems, tables of weights and measures, proverbs, prayers, legal formulas…. used by readers, writers, students, and scholars as an aid for remembering…. Each one is unique to its creator’s particular interests but they almost always include passages found in other texts, sometimes accompanied by the compiler’s responses.”
If you plan to join us, please bring…
-Your Commonplace book with favorite quotes. Be prepared to read them and tell us what you love about it, why it is meaningful to you, and/or why you wanted to keep it.
-An inexpensive (less than $10) handmade gift, or a white elephant item you have laying around the house for a fun gift exchange. (Or, hey, you could pick something up at the Handicraft Fair!)
Coffee, Tea, Drinks and Appetizers will be served.
Please RSVP if you plan to attend.
